The Old Edgefield Pottery
The Old Edgefield Pottery, located in a refurbished old building off of the town square in Edgefield, is a project of the Edgefield County Historical Society. Master Potter, Stevhen Ferrell, works to re-establish the pottery traditions of Edgefield County, to educate the public on the importance of alkaline-glazed pottery as a Southern art form, and to empasize the African-American influence on this tradition.
Visitors to the shop can not only see examples of original Edgefield pottery dating as early as the 1820s, but also reproductions that are for sale. All proceeds from this project go to the Edgefield County Historical Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Edgefield County history.
