Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site

Heritage Corridor Site

Truly the birthplace of South Carolina, in 1670 a group of English settlers landed here and established what would become the start of the Carolinas colony, the plantation system of the American South, and one of the continent's first major port cities. The view here hasn't changed much at all (except for the fact that you can now enjoy a convenient trolley and audio tour to get you from place to place!)

After you brush up on your history at the interactive museum on site, many exciting components await you and include the Adventure (Charleston's only 17th century replica sailing ship), an authentic experimental crop garden, archaeology sites, a natural habitat animal forest with native species indigenous to South Carolina during it's early settlement and 80 acres of gardens that boasts elegant oaks and the Legare-Waring House, a favorite site for weddings and other special gatherings. Founders Hall is the newest addition to the grounds and is an impressive LEED gold certified building also used for events.
