Tri-County Chamber Executive Director Recognized

Clemson- Teresa Hatchell, executive director of the Tri-County Regional Chamber of Commerce, was awarded the Heritage Corridor Meritorious Service Award at the 2011 Heritage Development Summit in Clemson this week.

This annual award is presented to partners of the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor (SCNHC) who have performed extensive service with the goal of advancing heritage tourism development on both county and regional levels.

Hatchell was nominated and chosen by the SCNHC staff as a leader among the hundreds of volunteers and partners of the Heritage Corridor. Hatchell has been in chamber related work for 10 years and serves on Carolinas Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives Board of Directors, an organization that serves both of the Carolinas.

Hatchell also is the current Chairman of the Orangeburg County Heritage Corridor Board and has been involved with tourism initiatives in Orangeburg, Berkeley and Dorchester counties.

Michelle McCollum, president and CEO of the SCNHC, presented the award to Ms. Hatchell at the closing luncheon of the Heritage Development Summit located at the Conference Center and Inn at Clemson University.

“Teresa Hatchell has become a cornerstone of strength for our program. Today it is more important than ever to foster positive partnerships in order to grow rural tourism in South Carolina, and Teresa has done an exemplary job of reaching across county and town lines to do just that,” McCollum stated.

The SCNHC, a National Heritage Area, extends 320 miles across the state from the mountains of Oconee County, along the Savannah River, to the port city of Charleston. Through tourism sites, interpretative signage, travel guides and maps, the Corridor leads the visitor on a journey of experiences while telling the story of South Carolina's Native Americans, the Colonial Settlement and the western migration into the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  For more information on the SCNHC, visit www.sc-heritagecorridor.org.
